Top Ten - September 21
If you’d like to help out in some area in the church contact Pastor John at john@northgatefmc.com.
If you’re interested in a small group, contact Angelique at angelique@northgatefmc.com.
1. First Responder Appreciation Picnic – Thank you to all of the people who volunteered their time and energies to put on the “First Responder Appreciation Picnic” this past Saturday. And thank you to those who delivered meals to those who couldn’t attend in person. We want the people in our community who serve others during times of crisis to know that we care about them and appreciate their work. If you know a “First Responder”, be sure to say thank you to them!
2. Learn About Volunteering in the Kids’ Wing This Sunday – Becca will be hosting a gathering this Sunday after 2nd service in the Kto4 room for anyone interested in volunteering in the Kids’ Wing. We think it’s really important to start showing the love of Jesus to children at a young age. Our Kids’ Wing volunteers make that a reality and we could use some more caring individuals to share that ministry. Come learn how to be a part of it. Cookies will be served! And Becca promises to be done in time for people to make the football game Sunday afternoon, so don’t let that deter you!
3. Carol McLeod Conference – Ladies, it’s time to register for this year’s Carol McLeod Conference happening 10/13-14. There was a lot of really positive feedback on last year’s conference, and we expect the same this year. Carol is a wonderful teacher and conference leader. Registration is open for this on the Northgate website, northgatefmc.com.
4. Veteran’s Dinner – We’d like to show our love and appreciation for Veterans and their guest, and for those who currently serve our country in one of the Armed Forces: Marines, Army, Navy, Air Force, Space Force, Coast Guard or National Guard, and their guest. We’ll be hosting a dinner to honor these individuals on November 16. For planning purposes we’d appreciate knowing how many might attend so please contact Angelique at angelique@northgatefmc.com with that information or to ask questions. Thanks!
5. Diaper Collection For All Babies Cherished – All Babies Cherished goes through quite a few diapers as they seek to help moms with newborns. We can help also but donating diapers to them. If you’d like to be part of that, just drop the diapers off here at Northgate and we’ll pass them along to ABC. Thanks!
6. Mommy and Me Play Group – The purpose of the Mommy and Me play group is to create friendships and connection for moms who are in the early years of motherhood, while allowing little ones to play together and socialize in a fun laid-back setting. This playgroup is designed for children, preschool age and younger. It will take place on Tuesdays starting in October from 9:30 to 10:30 in the preschool room. For more information contact Tara at tara@northgatefmc.com.
7. MOPs is Planning For This Year – MOPS is not just Mothers of Preschoolers – it is for all Moms! We’re kicking off another great year of fellowship and fun on Tuesday September 26 from 6-8pm. MOPS is also including Moms of school aged kids (thru age 18) and Mentor Moms for mothers that have grown kids, who are wanting to offer support through prayer, insight, and holding babies during meetings. MOPs meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the Month during the school year and meetings always include something delicious, and a relatable discussion topic. We’ll do crafts, hear from speakers and plan a few events for MOPS families, as well as look to partner with a community group to support women or families in some way.
The group is hoping to offer childcare and we’re looking for volunteers, who will need to be “We Care” certified. We’d like to cover the biweekly meeting times to eliminate that barrier but would be happy to have help with childcare at least a few nights during the school year so that people can enjoy a couples night or a retreat (we’re considering a non-weeknight for this, depending on volunteer availability).
Flyers and handouts will be by the Northgate Kids sign in tablets and will include website info and QR codes to register. MOPS would also like to thank past and current supporters of the group. MOPs has a rich history in this church and we are so appreciative of the church community involvement that makes it a success.
If you can’t make it on Sept 26th, the MOPS/ Moms Next first official meeting is October 10 - but you can join anytime!
8. New DivorceCare and GriefShare Groups Are Starting Up – A new Divorce Care group started September 16 at 5pm at North Campus and GriefShare began September 12 and meets from 6-7:30 at 34 William St. Even those the groups just began new members are welcome any time. For more information contact Patti Chadwick at 585-297-3009. Thanks.
9. Salvation Army Collection – The Salvation Army food pantry could use some restocking. There are cards on the Information Table with a list of specific items that are needed. You can bring them here and leave them in the entryway to North or South and we’ll make sure they get delivered to the Salvation Army. Thanks!
10 Thinking About Christmas – From the Salvation Army: “The Christmas season can be a challenging time of year for many families. Each year Northgate partners with the Salvation Army to make sure that each child gets to experience the joy of opening presents on Christmas morning. Families that are in need of assistance can apply at the link below. The application will be available from 9/11 to 10/31. You will be able to find the link to the application on the Salvation Army website (https://easternusa.salvationarmy.org/empire/batavia/) and through the Northgate social media pages when it becomes available.”

You Can Count on This – 2 Thessalonians 3:3 – But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen and protect you from the evil one. (Read 2 Thessalonians 3:1-18)
I’m not one to look for the Devil (the evil one) around every corner. If the check engine light comes on in my car, I don’t automatically think that the Devil must be messing around with my engine. Cars do need servicing. On the other hand, I absolutely believe in the Devil, and I believe he is at work in the world trying to mess up God’s work. As Christians we don’t need to live in fear of the Devil but respect that he hates God and hates those who love God. He and his agents do want to destroy lives. But the Lord is faithful and will strengthen us and protect us from the Devil’s schemes. So, keep your relationship with the Lord strong and don’t let the Devil mess that up!
When you’re not sure what you can count on in the world around you, know this: You can count on God keeping his word. So read what God has to say in scripture! And count on it.
