The Northgate Residency is a hands-on, immersive program designed to develop and empower the next generation of ministry leaders. Rooted in a thriving church culture that believes in the God-given potential of every person, this residency invites students to grow in both character and calling as they live out their passion for ministry.
Residency students will have the opportunity to work alongside Northgate staff and leaders in one of several focused ministry tracks, including Worship Leadership, Pastoral Leadership, Northgate Kids, Student Ministry (Base), and Spiritual Formation. Each track offers unique, in-depth experiences that will sharpen your skills, stretch your faith, and prepare you for the real work of ministry.

Development
When you step into the Residency at Northgate, you're entering a season of intentional ministry-focused growth. This isn’t an internship or a stepping-stone role — it's a purposeful opportunity to engage in meaningful work that advances the Kingdom and the mission of Northgate which is to Bring people to Jesus Christ, Build them up in that relationship and Send them out to share His love. As you contribute to real ministry alongside our team, our commitment is to pour into your personal and spiritual development. The Residency exists to equip you while you actively live out your calling.

Resident Meeting
Each week, residents will engage in intentional development time, either through all-staff meetings or one-on-one sessions with their ministry track leader. These gatherings will focus on three key areas: ministry skills, leadership growth, and personal

Coaching One-On-One
You'll spend an hour each week meeting one-on-one with your coach. During this time, your coach will give you hands-on feedback on both your work as a resident and your growth as a person.

Ministry Experience
You’ll take on an active role within your ministry track, giving you the opportunity to lead with purpose and take ownership of meaningful responsibilities that will shape and sharpen your ministry skills.

Spiritual Formation
As a Resident, you’ll be uniquely positioned to receive personal investment from Pastor John, Andrea, and our pastoral leadership team. You’ll experience a dynamic blend of hands-on ministry and intentional coaching that equips you for long-term impact. In the area of spiritual formation, you’ll serve across a variety of ministry environments, helping to shape the spiritual journey of others while growing in your own leadership. You’ll gain practical experience that prepares you for the realities of ministry. This residency offers a rich, diverse pathway of growth and real-life leadership development.
Worship Ministry
From day one, you’ll step into a hands-on leadership role as the worship leader within student ministry environments at your campus. You’ll collaborate with the student pastor to plan services, lead and develop volunteer teams, and oversee the weekly execution of worship gatherings. In addition to leading worship, you’ll provide pastoral care and support to your worship and production volunteers. You’ll also gain experience in Sunday adult services, expanding your skills across a variety of worship contexts.
Student Ministry (Base)
If you're pursuing a call to student ministry, the Residency at Northgate is the ideal place to grow. You’ll take part in sermon series planning, gain multiple opportunities to teach, and learn how to recruit, train, and develop volunteer teams. Along the way, you'll lead student small groups, helping to shape the next generation through intentional discipleship and relational ministry.
Kids Ministry (Northgate Kids)
As a Kids Ministry Resident at Northgate, you’ll be actively involved in leading and equipping volunteer teams across nursery, preschool, and elementary environments. You’ll get to build relationships with kids and families, helping guide them through important milestones like baby dedications, salvation conversations, and baptisms. You’ll also have the opportunity to help elementary-aged kids discover how they can serve in the church and take meaningful steps in their faith journey.

When can I start?
Wow—we love your passion to jump right in! Residents can apply anytime, but we hope you’ll start during one of our official onboarding periods in August or January.

What is the compensation for the Residency
The Residency at Northgate is an unpaid program intentionally designed for those exploring a call to ministry through the local church. While there is no financial compensation, residents gain hands-on ministry experience, spiritual growth opportunities, and personal mentorship.
We’re also able to work with college professors or academic advisors to help fulfill internship requirements and provide credit as part of your Residency experience.

How long is the program?
The Residency runs alongside the traditional university calendar—beginning in August and ending in May—lasting approximately 10 months.
There are built-in breaks throughout the year, giving Residents the opportunity to travel home or continue serving locally during those times, depending on their availability and preference.

How many hours?
Residents commit to around 10 hours of service each week. The specific schedule will vary based on the ministry track you choose—some roles may involve weekday responsibilities, while others include weekend involvement.

Can I have a part time job during the Residency
Yes, you most certainly can! We understand that many Residents may need to work during the program. Your Residency leader will do their best to work with your job schedule, but we do ask that the Residency remain your main priority.

Do I need an undergraduate degree?
Nope! The Residency at Northgate is open to anyone who feels called to explore ministry. The only requirements are that you love Jesus, His Church, and that you’re 18 years or older.
