21 Days of Prayer & Fasting
January 1-21, 2025
Dedicate 21 days to prayer and fasting by seeking God first and drawing near to Him. Below, you’ll find 21 prayers to guide you throughout the weeks as you set aside time to seek Him. The fasting part is a way to celebrate the goodness and mercy of God. It prepares our hearts to receive the blessings He desires to bring into our lives. Whether you choose a Selective Fast (removing specific foods) or a Soul Fast (refocusing areas of life that feel unbalanced or removing unhealthy distractions), remember that the timing of your fast is less important than maintaining a strong focus on God during this time. In addition to our 21 prayers, we’re excited to offer a Kid's Prayer Guide, designed for the whole family to engage in prayer together.
Why 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting?
The practice of 21 days of prayer and fasting finds its roots in the Bible, specifically in the book of Daniel, chapter 10. In this passage, Daniel devoted himself to prayer and fasting for 21 days as he sought God’s guidance and wisdom. This time of focused prayer reflects a commitment to deepening one's relationship with God, seeking His will, and aligning our hearts with His purpose.
Fasting?
The goal of fasting is to draw near to God. There are many different fasts to choose from. Some may include omitting a particular food, giving up a habit, or perhaps you may choose to do a soul fast. Your personal fast should present a level of challenge, but it is very important to know your body, your options, and, most importantly, to seek God in prayer and follow what the Holy Spirit leads you to do.
Selective Fast: This type of fast involves removing certain elements from your diet. One example of a selective fast is the Daniel Fast, during which you remove meat, sweets, and bread from your diet and consume water and juice for fluids and fruits and vegetables for food.
Soul Fast: This fast is a great option if you do not have much experience fasting food, have health issues that prevent you from fasting food, or if you wish to refocus certain areas of your life that are out of balance.
For example, you might choose to stop using social media or watching television for the duration of the fast and then carefully bring that element back into your life in healthy doses at the conclusion of the fast.
