Top Ten - January 12

1. Northgate Care Team We are blessed with a wonderful Care Team here at Northgate. This is a team of about 15-20 people who pray, provide meals, send cards and visit and in other ways care for people who are ill or homebound or simply in need of knowing they are not alone in what they are going through. The Care Team recently held a meeting and among the things celebrated were new members of the team; over 400 emails initiated and responded to in 2022; the start of a senior outreach team and the ongoing Sunday morning prayer meeting. I always say that this team is a very important team, and I am so glad they are doing the ministry they are. If you’d like to be a part of the Care Team, let Karen VW know at careteam@northgatefmc.com.

2. Bible Study Reading Plans It’s a new year and that often means people want to start a new Bible reading plan. There are plenty to choose from based on what you are seeking to do and how much time you have. Some will take you through the Old Testament once and the New Testament twice. Others take you through each testament one time only. There are also chronological study plans that arrange the Bible in order of when events occurred, which can be a helpful way to get the timeline of the Biblical story. And there are other options too! You can search for “Bible reading study plans” or here’s one site that offers a few options: https://www.navigators.org/resource/bible-reading-plans/.

3. Northgate is Now On YouVersion We’ve added Northgate to the popular YouVersion Bible app. If you have the app on your phone, just go to “discover” and look up Northgate. You can also use this link to get there… https://www.bible.com/organizations/97559deb-4efc-44de-9373-152f1c75aca1.

4. Next Centered Night of Prayer and Worship On the first Wednesday of each month at 6pm we hold a service of prayer and worship. While it’s a relatively small group of people who attend, we always enjoy this time of gathering together in God’s presence and midweek is a wonderful time to reset. Everyone is welcome to these, and the next one will be Wednesday, February 8.

5. No PrimeTimers in January or February There is no Prime Timers for January or February. We take these months off due to the unpredictable nature of the weather this time of year! We look forward to resuming this gathering of Seniors in March and hope you’ll plan to join us if you consider yourself a “senior”! (I am!) Mark your calendar for March 9 at noon.

6. New Sermon Series – “Songs in the Key of Love” We have begun a new sermon series at North called “Songs in the Key of Love.” We’ll be looking at the topic of love from a Biblical perspective, and also from what some popular songs say about it. Learning to love well is something God really wants us to know, so we hope you’ll come join us as we dive into this important topic.

7. Interested in Financial Peace? We’re ready to offer another Financial Peace University class and would like to know how many people would be interested in attending. FPU is a great way to learn about how to manage finances in a healthy, God-honoring and Biblical manner. If you’d be interested in taking FPU please email Angelique at angelique@northgatefmc.com and let her know. If we have enough people sign up we’ll arrange for the class to take place. Thanks!

8. Creation Museum/Ark & Sight and Sound Trips Only a few seats left for this trip! Angelique has been working on putting together the first of our excursions planned for this year. We are planning a trip to Sight and Sound to see “Moses”! The trip takes place on May 1-3, with travel days on the 1st and 3rd and a 3pm show on the 2nd. We will travel by bus (though individuals are of course free to drive separately) and we’ll be staying at “Bird-in-Hand Family Inn.” The cost is coming in at under $500 per person for the bus, hotel, show and two breakfasts. At this point we need to get a firm handle on the number of people who would like to go. If you want to be part of it, please email Angelique at angelique@northgatefmc.com and let her know. Thanks!

9. Prayer Shawl Ministry The Prayer Shawl ministry meets the first Saturday of every month at 10am at Northgate North. This group makes prayer shawls which are given out to people going through difficult times in their lives. All are welcome to come and join in; if you don’t know how to knit a shawl this is a great place to learn! Rosalina leads this ministry and was excited to tell me last week that they have about 12 people attending! There’s always room for more, if you are interested.

10. Monday Night Bible Study On Monday nights at 6:30 I lead a Bible study in Room 2/3 at North. We just finished studying Hebrews and we just started a study in the book of Philippians. Everyone is welcome and if you’d like to get on the email list and receive the notes that way just let me know at vern@northgatefmc.com.

Can We Pray For You? – Please let us know how. Email us at prayer@northgatefmc.com. And if you’d like to join one of our several prayer teams (Sunday mornings, Wednesday afternoons, the Care Team) please let us know that too.

On Sunday mornings from 9:30 to 10:30 a prayer team meets in meeting room 4. During this time people pray for the services, needs of our congregation and other topics as God leads.  We would love to have you join this prayer team.

To learn more about these opportunities, or to suggest an idea for a group or a gathering, or to inquire about reserving space at the church or the pavilion you can always email the office (office@northgatefmc.com) or call 343-4011. You can check out our website too (northgatefmc.com).

You Can Count on This – Galatians 2:20 – I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.  (Read Galatians 2:1-21)

This is a powerful verse. It speaks to what happens to us when we become Christians and surrender our lives to the Lordship of Jesus. When that happens, we die to ourselves – that is, we stop living for ourselves, our wants and desires, our feelings and so on, and we live for Christ. We want what Jesus wants, because Jesus comes to live in us by the Holy Spirit. This life that we live on earth, we live for Jesus, and we live by faith, or trust in Jesus. Our faith, or trust, is not going to disappoint us, because Jesus has already shown the depth of His love for us by giving himself up for us. The least we can do is to give our lives over to His care and leading.

When you’re not sure what you can count on in the world around you, know this: You can count on God keeping his word.  So read what God has to say in scripture!  And count on it.
