5. ABC Run For Barb - June 4 The All Babies Cherished “Run Baby Run” event which launches from our South Campus is coming up on June 4. In addition to helping support this local ministry which aids women who are pregnant and moms, we would like to use this time to honor Barb Ettinger through participating in the 5K run/walk. Barb recently passed away and had served wonderfully for decades as our Nursery Coordinator. The plan is for everyone who wants to honor Barb to wear something red that morning. Barb loved birds and especially cardinals, so the red color will be to represent cardinals. We’ll call ourselves “Grandma Barb’s Red Birds.” To support All Babies Cherished (Barb’s favorite charity) and to participate in the day you can sign up at https://runsignup.com/Race/NY/Batavia/ABCrunbabyrun. Be sure to join the “Grandma Barb’s Red Birds” sponsor to identify as part of this team.

You Can Count on This – 1 Corinthians 2:2 – For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. (Read 1 Corinthians 2:1-16)

You might call Paul a man with a singular mind, or a man with one message that he just keeps sounding over and over and over. His message: “You need to know Jesus Christ, and that He was crucified for you.” I think that implied in this message is also the message of the resurrection of Jesus and the way to be saved from our sins by faith in Jesus. This was Paul’s message to the world, and he never tired of speaking about it.

There are so many things going on in our world and the opinions we have on those things can be quite varied among us. But as Christians we need to follow Paul in this: our main message is that people need to know about Jesus. “Jesus is the answer to the problems of this world.” I believe that. I sincerely believe that if more people knew who Jesus was and placed their faith in Him and chose, every day, to live their lives the way that He leads us to, that our world would be a better place. That may sound naïve to some, or incomplete to others, but I do believe it.

I also believe that it’s the place of the church to keep bringing this message to the world. We need to be people as bold as Paul when it comes to sharing our belief in Jesus. We might do so feeling weak, trembling, and in great fear… but then that’s exactly how Paul felt too. We may not feel very wise or persuasive; we don’t have all the answers; but we know where to begin to find those answers and it’s in a relationship with Jesus. Don’t be ashamed of the gospel. People need to hear about Christ. And if they ever say to us, “All you talk about is Jesus” maybe we’re on the right track.

When you’re not sure what you can count on in the world around you, know this: You can count on God keeping his word.  So read what God has to say in scripture!  And count on it.
